About Jordan
One word - Petra. What else is there to say about Jordan? Well, a lot actually. Petra is plenty of reason enough to trek around the world and back; it is truly awesome. But we recommend that visitors stick around for at least a few extra days. Climate
Most of the year, except for the winter months of December through March, is hot and dry. The winter months can be drizzly, damp and cool; snowing occasionally in Amman and the mountains. Even the summer evenings may be cool. Aqaba on the Red Sea is usually a few degrees warmer and sunny throughout the year.
The best time to visit is mid-March to mid-May and mid-September through October.
Documentation
A valid passport and visa are required for Americans to enter Jordan. Visas can be obtained upon entry unless crossing into Jordan from Israel at the Allenby Bridge border crossing, in which case you must get your visa in advance. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival into Jordan.
Shots
Yellow fever certificate is required if you are arriving from an infected area.

Language
The language of Jordan is Arabic. English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
Dress
Conservative dress is recommended. It is best for both men and women to keep shoulders and legs fairly well covered. Loose, flowing garments in natural fibers (cotton, linen) are ideal for the heat. A sweater is advisable for the cool summer evenings or winter travel. Sun hat, sunglasses and plenty of fluids help to cope with the heat.
Currency
The currency of Jordan is the Dinar.
Electricity
The electric current is 220 volts AC 50 cycle. The wall plugs are the round, two pronged European type; bring an adapter if necessary.
