One word - Petra. What else is there to say about Jordan? Well, a lot actually. Petra is plenty of reason enough to trek around the world and back; it is truly awesome. But we recommend that visitors stick around for at least a few extra days. Relics of pivotal times scatter the shoulders of the ancient Kings Highway, running through Jordan from end to end; a 4X4 trek among the granite towers of Wadi Rum is epic; and the elements of the Dead Sea wrap visitors in restorative bliss…

Climate
Most of the year, except for the winter months of December through March, is hot and dry. The winter months can be drizzly, damp and cool; snowing occasionally in Amman and the mountains. Even the summer evenings may be cool. Aqaba on the Red Sea is usually a few degrees warmer and sunny throughout the year.
The best time to visit is mid-March to mid-May and mid-September through October.

Jordan lies east of the Mediterranean Sea and just north of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Syria to the north, Iraq to the east, Saudi Arabia to the south, and Israel and the West Bank to the west. Except for a small stretch on the Red Sea in the very south, Jordan is landlocked. The fertile Jordan valley runs along the western border in the north. The land along the Dead Sea, from the central western border to the south, is quite dry and barren. The central uplands, with their temperate climate and rich soils have steadily attracted settlements for thousands of years. The eastern desert forms over 75 percent of the land of Jordan and is sparsely populated.
The government of Jordan is a constitutional monarchy. The current ruler is King Abdullah. The legislative body is the National Assembly, which consists of 2 chambers: the 40-member Senate, appointed by the king, and the popularly elected 80-member Chamber of Deputies.
Jordan is a developing country with an increasing industry and foreign investment. Jordan's major export products are phosphates and fruits. Tourism is increasingly significant to the economy with 2.5 million visitors a year.
Jordan is mostly Sunni Muslim (96%) with minority Christian and Shi'ite Muslim communities.
